Who is at risk?

The risk of esophageal precancer is highest in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), age over 50, male, white race, obesity, smoking, and a family history of esophageal precancer (Barrett's esophagus) or cancer (esophageal adenocarcinoma).
